If a fall has occurred, you should discuss this with your Physician to determine the possible causes and if any changes should be made to your medications or lifestyle..  You should check your home to make sure you have adequate lighting at all times, walk ways are clear, and you have grab bars near your bed or in the bathroom to assist with transfers.  You may also discuss whether you would benefit from use of an assistive device, such as a cane or walker.  A referral to Physical Therapy may be helpful to assess your balance and gait to see if you need further strengthening or balance training.

Some falls can be prevented, and with the proper knowledge regarding your nutrition, medication, and home safety you may be able to avoid a future fall.  Call the office and schedule an appointment for an evaluation to see if Physical Therapy is right for you!
